Radon exposure can happen anywhere in the U.S. If you are concerned about the Radon levels in your Louisville, KY or Southern Indiana home IPM Services get your home tested and help reduce the levels if there is a need. Wouldn’t you rather be safe than sorry?
What is Radon?
Radon is a Cancer-Causing Radioactive Gas. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock and water and gets into the air you breathe. Radon is estimated to cause many thousands of deaths every year. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, and the number one leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.
Radon is dangerous because:
You can’t see it.
You can’t smell it.
You can’t taste it.
Most of the exposure to Radon comes from being in homes. Approximately 1 out of 15 homes is likely to have raised radon levels. Radon gas is given off by rock or soil and goes into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation. Your home traps the radon inside, where it accumulates. Radon may collect in basements or crawl spaces, because it is the closest to the soil or rock which is the source of the radon. Rarely, radon may enter your home from radon-contaminated drinking water that is used in bathrooms and showers.
Radon is not created as a commercial product. Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally and comes from the natural breakdown of uranium. Radon has been used to influence chemical reactions and also as a surface label in the study of surface reactions.
Testing is the only way to know your home’s radon levels. IPM Services will test your Louisville, KY home for radon, if high radon levels exist, IPM Services will provide you with a proposal to install a Radon Mitigation System, which pulls the Radon from the home. Testing is relatively inexpensive and easy, and is the only way to know whether you are at risk. Every home should be tested for radon.
